Mastodon's Brent Hinds hospitalized after MTV VMA performance

Posted by Rodney Carmichael on Wed, Sep 12, 2007 at 6:40 PM

According to reports from the metal site Blabbermouth.net, a statement released from Mastodon's management confirms that guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds sustained a serious head injury after the Atlanta band's MTV VMA performance:

Mastodon guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds suffered a severe head injury after his performance on Sunday night's [Sept. 9] MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas. He is being treated by a Las Vegas hospital where he remains hospitalized.

We have no credible source to confirm whether Hinds' injury was the result of a physical assault, as has been rumored. The YouTube clip below features the Atlanta metal band's VMA performance of "Colony of Birchmen" with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age making a guest appearance.

We'll update you as reliable information becomes available.
