Without warning (or promotion) the folks at Sounds from the Pocket and Le Chateu Noir in Stone Mountain are hosting yet another of their infamous Free Dumb (or Free Damn) noise / music festivals this weekend (Fri., July 25 & Sat., July 26).
Free Dumb festivals were initially held every year on Sept. 11th, but at some point over the last couple of years, festival organizer, and label owner Justin Waters abandoned the schedule and just started throwing them at will.
These events are not for the faint of heart and generally feature scattered performances by noisy and subversive artists from all over the spectrum, that perform in various rooms throughout Le Chateu Noir (A.K.A. Blak Casl), which is actually a big house at the end of a very scary dirt road off of a cul-de-sac in Stone Mountain.
Most shows happen in a marathon-style. For example, when group A finishes their set in the dining room, group B fires up over by the bathroom or in the storage room.
Making your way there can be a bit harrowing and finding the house for the first time feels a bit like a scene from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. But the vibe inside is always a lot of fun.
It's best to Look on Google maps for directions and instructions on how to get there. At Google Maps type in "Blak Casl google maps" in the search bar, click on user created content, find this house and local eats too, and you're good to go.
The schedule of performers can and most likely will change, but so far the line-up for Friday night includes:
Melissa Lonely
Chinese Frankenstein
Social Junk
Necklaces
Juffage
Hny
Flux Forces
Luciano Guidini
Eiliyas

Saturday night's line-up includes:

All who attend are encouraged to bring tents, pillows, bedding, beer, pasta, bread, fruit
and sleep over if they want to... It's a long drive back to Atlanta and if you've had a few beers, those Stone Mountain cops would be more than happy to haul you in.
Definitely bring your own beer. Music starts at 9 p.m. The shows are free but donations at the door are strongly encouraged.
