As the lead single from their latest full-length release goes, "Ready for the Floor" that is exactly what the throngs of people at Hot Chips Variety Playhouse show were on Thursday night October 9.
A very up-for-it crowd soaked up the bands idiosyncratic knack for playing a wide-ranging sound that fearlessly ventured everywhere from electro-pop-infused indie rock to killer soulful R&B slow jams. As they effortlessly worked the crowd up with rowdy club bangers like "Over and Over" and "Shake a Fist," they just as effortlessly wound them down with their more downtempo numbers like the poignant "Made in the Dark."
And even with all of their extremely quirky yet adorable musical inconsistencies, a common thread as witnessed with their funk-inspired rock sounds was their overt adoration of his royal badness: Prince. Plus, as if name-dropping the purple ones protégé girl supergroup Vanity 6 was not enough to put them completely over the top with their homage, they closed out the show with a heart-warming and epic medley that started off with the classic "Nothing Compares 2 U," which smoothly transitioned over to their quiet storm anthem "In the Privacy of Our Love."
Hot show indeed.
