R.I.P. Atlanta writer Paul Hemphill

Sad news came this morning when word spread that former AJC columnist and author of celebrated books The Nashville Sound and Lovesick Blues: The Life of Hank Williams, Paul Hemphill died after a long battle with cancer.

Hemphill died at the age of 73. He had carved out a prolific career writing about baseball, country music and the ups and downs of life as a Southerner in the shadow of the Civil Rghts era.
