Donnis gets a winner deal

.

Atlanta emcee Donnis got himself signed. It's not quite a major label deal, but perhaps it's something better.

His imprint is Fool's Gold, a Brooklyn label founded by A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs. A-Trak, of course, is Kanye West's longtime DJ/homeskillet (and the brother of Chromeo's Dave1), while Nick Catchdubs is a former Fader editor who helped usher Wale's rise to rap royalty. Fool's Gold pressed up Kid Cudi's first twelve inch, and is also tight with Kid Sister.

Donnis should fit in well in this milieu. And, besides, these days major deals don't do much for indie-style rappers. Just ask Wale, for whom Interscope has managed to somehow squander all the hype and good will that Catchdubs and co. helped build for him.
