No doubt, the aughties have been all about the ironic music mashup. So this latest odd pairing should come as no biggie. To help promote Gucci Mane's Dec. 8 album release date for The State vs. Radric Davis, tastemaker DJ and producer Diplo (M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes") will remix Gucci Mane's Cold War mixtape series.

According to Diplo, it makes perfect sense. Per the press release:

“Gucci Mane is an underdog, and a divisive artist,” says Diplo. “I thought it would be cool to have a bunch of kids and weirdos do some mixes of his songs. We all are fans and we are from different scenes. Gucci is a rapper that doesn’t try and be anything he is not; he’s straight up. Maybe it’s ironic and all, but I’m just a fan and have been since day one. Gucci Mane is the cool uncle I never had even though I’m pretty sure I am older than him.”

The collaboration between Gucci's 1017 Brick Squad label and Diplo's Mad Decent label will also include produce a "Free Gucci" t-shirt to promote the remix — which is kinda redundant considering Gucci will likely be eligible for release from his 12 month sentence in six months or less.

Then again, considering Gucci's recent history with revolving jail cell doors, a shirt like that probably won't stay out of fashion long.
