Collective Efforts just dropped "Crazy Things," the debut single from the upcoming album Freezing World. The cats on keys, drums and guitar in the video (directed by Green Leather Sofa) are not actors for hire, they're part of the A-town hip-hop group's expanded line-up. They take the stage this Fri., Dec. 18 for a CE Holiday Party at Smith's.
Also featuring the Soulphonics with Ruby Velle and the Audobon Society on turntables. $10-$12. 9 p.m. Fri., Dec. 18. Smith's Olde Bar, 1578 Piedmont Road. 404-875-1522.
This synopsis of the album, due to drop Feb. 16 on 1320records.com, sounds like a rare dose of reality rap for the times:
On their most recent effort, dubbed Freezing World, CE gives us a glimpse into the ways we all struggle to survive and be happy. The general vibe of the album is hopeful yet melancholy, filled with lyrical and sonic overtones that paint a dark picture of the group struggling to do their best to stay afloat in a world full of fading dreams, broken promises and musical disillusionment.
