Roll Call: the HEAP

Posted by Chad Radford on Tue, Dec 22, 2009 at 2:25 PM

Jeff Rieter

Who are you?

Jeff Rieter,  the other bassist for the HEAP.

Describe yourself in three words.

Understated, random, intense.

Who — dead or alive — would you most like to meet?

Miles Davis, preferably circa 1969 or 70.

Who would you most like to slap in the face?

The producers of American Idol, but I'm not really a violent person.

What song do you wish you had written?

McDonald's "I'm Lovin' it"  or maybe "I'd like to buy the world a Coke," or even "Oh What a Feeling, Toyota."...is there a pattern forming...? If none of those, AC/DC's "Back in Black" is really catchy. I kinda wish I'd written that one...

Phish or Faust?

The Sex Mob, because, I think I'm more in the Faust camp, even though I didn't go to the "Faust Camp" (held in Athens a few months ago), and Phish sounds like Will Lee and the boys from "the Late Show [with David Letterman]" to me.

LP, CD or MP3?

Mp3, only because my turntable needs repairs.

If you could start one trend, what would it be?

Fringe music going ultra-hip, then seeping into mainstream consciousness... Especially fringe music with (2 or more bass players per band...)?.

If you could end one trend, what would it be?

Those Bluetooth ear things...

With whom would you most like to play a game of spin the bottle?

You know who you are... But what are the rules of the game again?

"Get Around" mp3

The Heap plays the Tabernacle on Sat., Dec. 26 with Drivin' N Cryin'. $20 (adv). $25. Door. 8 p.m. 152 Luckie St. www.livenation.com.

Bryan J Howard

Who are you?

Bryan J. Howard. Bass player/singer for the HEAP. Also a sideman for various artists.

Describe yourself in three words.

Kind, patient, disorganized.

Who — dead or alive — would you most like to meet?

My Great-Grandfather, Reverend Robert C. Pannell, I have so many things I would like to ask him.

Who would you most like to slap in the face?

People who post inflammatory, sexist and/or racist things online anonymously. They are cowards.

What song do you wish you had written?

"Souvenirs" by Still Small Voice and the Joyful Noise. Brilliantly written and more folks need to hear it.

Phish or Faust?

Faust, I am really not too familiar with them but I am familiar with Phish enough said.

LP, CD or MP3?

MP3, I can carry a bunch of them with me wherever I go.

If you could start one trend, what would it be?

I would start a trend of more "tenor basses."

If you could end one trend, what would it be?

I would end the trend of horrible spelling online.

With whom would you most like to play a game of spin the bottle?

My lovely wife, Pam.
