Ministers of Sound salute DJ culture

Posted By on Wed, Jan 27, 2010 at 1:50 PM

Atlanta DJs will be honored this Thursday at "A Dream Supreme," a one-night event at 595 North benefiting Ministers of Sound, an art installation opening this spring. Listen to DJ sets from Mafioso, Jamad, Cha Cha, Kemit, Karl Injex, Rasta Root and many others. Once you've had your fill of spinning and scratching, bid on artwork at the silent auction, which will feature pieces from artists associated with DJ culture including Fahamu Pecou, Fabian the Occasional Superstar and Goldi Gold. Or if your wallet is thin, snack on some treats from bakery Small Cakes while you listen in on the radio DJ symposium featuring Jamal Ahmad of WCLK-FM (91.9), DJ Tabone of WRFG-FM (89.3), and Talib Shabazz and Randall Moore formerly of WRAS-FM (88.5), among others, moderated by Ed Garnes of Afros to Shelltoes. Or check out trailers of upcoming DJ films and documentaries — including Copyright Criminals by Atlanta filmmakers Ben Franzen and Kembrew McLeod that recently aired on PBS.

"A Dream Supreme" $10. 7 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 28. 595 North, 595 North Ave.
