While everyone is waiting for DJ Drama's next outing with Young Jeezy, Trap or Die 2, "Dram Cruise" has another trick up his sleeve. Turns out R&B crooner/reformed domestic abuser Chris Brown linked up with Drama to put out a mixtape. A Gangsta Grillz mixtape. An R&B Gangsta Grillz mixtape at that.
The first Rhythm & Streets Gangsta Grillz featuring Brown is rumored to drop on Valentine's Day, of course. Trap or Die 2, however, was supposed to drop during Super Bowl weekend. Yet here we are, halfway through the next week, with nothing.
Over the years, the self-proclaimed iPod King's mixtape series has evolved from being actual mixtapes showcasing songs from tons of artists (the last instance of this was Gangsta Grillz 17 which dropped before Drama's official Gangsta Grillz album was released in 2007) to unreleased albums featuring only one artist (such as last year's The Preview with Ludacris and The Burrprint with Gucci Mane). So by now, the formula (insert hot artist over original and/or borrowed beats; add Drama's ad-libs and shit-talking; stir) has worn a little thin. But even his most die-hard fans must be wondering, how is this going to work with a singer?
The only way to find out is to actually listen to the mixtape on Valentine's Day (or whenever it will actually come out.)
Personally, I'm hoping that after he drops this he'll actually release the OutKast Gangsta Grillz he promised way back in 2005 on Gangsta Grillz 15. But there'll probably be a Kings of Leon Gangsta Grillz before that happens.
This is such a cool idea and the performance is great (I've been twice) but…
Ugliest bunch of girls I've ever seen.
