Janelle Monae premiered “Tightrope,” the first song from her upcoming album The ArchAndroid, today on Pitchfork. It features a verse from Big Boi rapping over a groove Pitchfork appropriately calls “James Brown-style funk.” (They also classify Ms. Monae as “futuristic R&B,” which coincidentally makes me think of Travis Porter.) The jam is available for exclusive download from her website starting tomorrow, along with another song titled “Cold War.”

As for album details, the follow-up to 2008’s Metropolis: The Chase Suite is scheduled to sprout May 18 on Wondaland/Bad Boy Entertainment. Billed as an “EMOTION PICTURE,” The ArchAndroid will also feature collabos from Of Montreal, Saul Williams and Wondaland’s Deep Cotton.
