Dark Meat played its final show in Georgia Friday night at the Earl

Athens’ avant-garde rock battle royale Dark Meat played their final Georgia show at the Earl on Saturday night. They were louder than necessary, but it was forgivable. It’s hard to control the decibel levels when there are so many people on the stage at the same time (I think I counted 9), riffing on 8-10 minute jams. In true Dark Meat form they hit their stride deep into the set. Just when the air in the room was turning to a general, palpable feeling of exhaustion, the group reached high to channel rock and roll from the astral plane. For this last local hurrah they did not disappoint.
