The Method Actors get reissued

"Do the Method" mp3

"Bleeding" mp3

On March 9 Acute Records released This Is Still It, a culmination of the early 7-inches, a 10-inch, 12-inch and the acclaimed Little Figures LP by Athens, duo the Method Actors.

Guitarist/vocalist Vic Varney and drummer/vocalist David Gamble, a.k.a. the Method Actors were an enigma amid the college rock mecca's art-damaged new wave scene of the late '70s and early '80s that's stamped in time by Pylon, the B-52's, R.E.M. and the likes. Peter Buck even penned the liner notes to this 19 song collection, calling it "a kind of secret history of the Athens scene." But nailing down just what kind of sound the Method Actors churned out is no easy task as they pushed the envelope of a post-punk ethos, backed by an edgy demeanor that wasn't polite enough to be called new wave. Their dark, pop song writing was experimental, confrontational and so incredibly driving that it left an indelible  mark on everyone who knew the music, yet it didn't fit in anywhere neatly, which is probably why the group has remained such an essential secret for so many years. This Is Still It compiles their best and their brightest songs onto one, convenient CD.
