Hey, you! Do you like the beach? Do you like hanging out on the beach? Do you like hanging out on the beach while a bunch of bands kick out the heady jams? Thought so. You'd better get down to Gulf Shores, Ala., on the weekend of May 14-16, because The Hangout Beach, Music & Arts Festival has got you covered, my man.
Snark aside, even though most of the bands playing this thing aren't exactly up my alley, a music-filled weekend at the beach does sound pretty nice. On the flip side, this motherfucker is expensive. A three-day festival pass will set you back a cool $160; opt for the "Hangout VIP Package" and you're up to $500. A "Big Kahuna VIP Package," for those Scroogiest of McDucks among us, costs $900. Who the fuck goes to these things?
Ah, but I digress. Check out the bands that'll be haaaaaaaaaangin' out:
Trey Anastasio and Classic TAB
Zac Brown Band
Ben Harper and Relentless7
The Black Crowes
Alison Krauss and Union Station Featuring Jerry Douglas
Michael Franti & Spearhead
Rodrigo y Gabriela
Blind Boys of Alabama
Jerry Jeff Walker
North Mississippi Allstars
Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam
Black Joe Lewis and the Honey Bears
The folks at Atlanta Music Guide have an interview with festival organizer Shaul Zislin. He does not mention whether anyone has yet become a Big Kahuna VIP. I'm guessing not.
Their show with Chris, Lord about 3 years at the Unicorn was the best.
I am a connoisseur of this real soul music like the comment above I'm glad…
You've got a few of my faves listed here, plus a bunch I've never heard…
This is such a cool idea and the performance is great (I've been twice) but…
Ugliest bunch of girls I've ever seen.
