Cee-Lo plays Twilight song on 'Leno'

Guess who's gone emo? Besides dropping Stray Bullets, his new Greg Street-helmed mixtape, Atlanta's resident roly-poly rapper/singer/oddball Cee-Lo Green has also contributed a song to the soundtrack for Twilight: Eclipse, the latest installment in the tweeny vampires-versus-werewolves series.

Last night, the Soul Machine dropped by "The Tonight Show" to perform the track with his all-female backing band. "What Part of Forever" is about as far from Cee-Lo's Goodie Mob roots as he could possibly get save for joining a Scandinavian black metal band or something. It's a heartfelt soft rock number, propelled by acoustic guitars and epic, soaring melodies. In some ways, it's the kind of crazy left field approach we witnessed with "Hey Ya" years back, but much more lyrically earnest.

Cee-Lo's been exploring new territory for a while now, so I guess I shouldn't be that surprised at this track. I will say that no one else could pull this song off like Mr. Green does. In his ever-capable hands, it's actually pretty damn good.
