Hey nutshot! If you've got no plans this weekend, head over to Athens for their annual "Music, Arts, Kids & Film Festival", AthFest. Festivites actually kick off today with the AthFest Comedy Showcase at New Earth Music Hall, an evening of funnies hosted by local stand-up dude TJ Young.
Tomorrow, the Flagpole Music Awards will go down at the historic Morton Theatre, honoring fans' choices for best bands and artists in this and that category. Also tomorrow, the 40 Watt hosts the official AthFest kickoff party with sets from Futurebirds and several others.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday see the outdoor stages light up, with headliners Modern Skirts, Packway Handle Band, Perpetual Groove, Bubba Sparxxx and Cracker all doing their thing. And of course there's the "Club Crawl", which consists of a bevy of local and touring bands playing around downtown Athens at a handful of participating venues.
All the outdoor stuff is, of course, free. Wristbands for the club crawl cost $15 in advance ($20 otherwise), and guarantee admission to all official AthFest shows. In addition to the music, there are a slew of other family-friendly activities happening in concurrence with the Fest. Visit the website for more info.
This is such a cool idea and the performance is great (I've been twice) but…
