Keri “Miss Keri Bay-bee” Hilson hosted the Cancers 4 a Cause: Where Music Meet Fashion For a Cure fashion show and concert at the Mason Murer Fine Art gallery on July 21. The third annual event partnered producer Polow Da Don’s Zone 4 label and his non-profit F.O.C.U.S. (Focus On Completion Until Successful) with the American Cancer Society to benefit cancer research.
Polow, himself, did not attend. Instead, the night, though way too long, belonged to the kids. A young sister act in the form of a duo named Chloé and Halle sang a cappella to greet the audience, then returned with an R&B tinged pop tune. Afterward, a troupe of ‘tween girls rocked the runway with formal and casual wear in age-appropriate — but still jazzy — gowns then bouncy tutus and leggings paired with sparkly sneakers.
New Zone 4 artist, Mika Means performed, but her expletive-laced performance was out of place with the jubilant tone set by the youngsters. Singer/songwriter Teedra Moses and soul newcomer Timothy Bloom rounded out the musical performances.
CBS Atlanta anchor JaQuitta Williams strode to the stage as a presenter while belting out Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor” as aptly as any singer there. The former WSB-TV reporter returned to the air earlier this month from an 18-month hiatus after beating breast cancer.
Singer Michelle Williams, who really once performed with Destiny’s Child, hit the runway, not to sing, but to model in the finale. Unfortunately, by the time she strutted in a canary yellow, strapless mini-dress, a good part of the crowd headed for the exit as the event dragged on until well after midnight. Williams was joined by America’s Next Top Model faves, Bianca Golden and Bre Scullark.
Award recipients included the Ludacris Foundation and designer, Tracy Reese.
Any intel about this Project Pabst festival that I scheduled for 10/1?
