He'll be gone 'til November - to Haiti! Campaigning! CNN's Marquee Blog has the story that former Fugee and outspoken human rights advocate Wyclef Jean is considering running for president of Haiti. Despite this news' surface level WTF-ness, it ain't really that crazy: 'Clef, a native Hatian, has long been a fierce proponent of that country's historically under-represented people, who, as you might recall, have endured a truly horrific year thus far. If elected its president, Jean's existing worldwide star power could, of course, cause folks to pay attention to Haiti in ways it has long needed.

Asked about the rumors (first reported by LeDroit), Wyclef will only divulge that he has indeed filled out the proper paperwork should he actually decide to run. "If and when a decision is made", reads the official statement, "media will be alerted immediately." Stay tuned.
