Alan Lomax's seminal Sounds of the South collection is perhaps one of the most important and enduring sets of field recording ever committed to tape. Beginning September 17 at Durham, N.C.'s Hayti Heritage Center, woodsy experimentalists Megafaun (pictured) and Virginia jazz collective Fight the Big Bull will unveil a three-day concert based on Lomax's masterwork. Oh hand to help out will be Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Brooklyn songstress Sharon Van Etten. The resulting concert series will be recorded and released some time next year.
This sounds awesome. What are you waiting for? Learn more and grab your tickets here.
