Music festivals: there's a shit-ton of 'em! But this one's worth noting, because,
A: It's happening in our own backyard, and
B: There are some really good bands playing.
From October 27-31 (ooh, spooky!), performers will spread out over Athens, Ga. and, uh, perform, as part of the third installation of the Next to Last Festival. And the big news is that this year NTL organizers have brought in some serious heavy hitters. Brian Wilson collaborator and preeminent pop songster Van Dyke Parks is set to co-headline the fest with legendary NYC post-punk dance crew ESG. Wow! Also playing are Quiet Hooves, Reptar, Noot d'Noot and Neutral Milk Hotel-er Julian Koster's Music Tapes, among others, including lots to be announced.
Full-festival wristbands are on sale - a limited number of them are $35, with the remaining 'bands priced at $40. And, hey Atlanta, take note. When was the last time we hosted a cool festival?
