Welcome to Take Five, a weekly feature where we ask five Very Important Questions of a local band set to perform that week. Today it's the sprawling, nine-member Oryx and Crake, who play WonderRoot tonight. Frontman Ryan Peoples answered some extra-hard-hitting queries.
1. So. Books, huh?
Yes. Books are good for you.
2. Encapsulate Oryx and Crake's mission statement in five words or less.
Realize Wyld Stallyns’ utopian society.
3. What's your favorite Gucci Mane song?
I had never heard of Gucci Mane before reading your question. But after reading his story on the most trusted source of information in the world, Wikipedia, it tickles me just how similar our backgrounds are. I haven’t shot as many people as him and haven’t ever been arrested for cocaine possession, but I do live in Decatur.
4. Give me your best fake 1980s synth-pop band name.
Onyx Cake in the Dark (an ode to the most recent printed misspelling of our band name).
5. Finally, please. No one has made me laugh yet. Tell me a joke that's actually funny.
Q: Where do kings keep their armies?
A: In their sleevies.
That makes my kid laugh, at least.
With Efren, Oh Dorian, Richard Parsons. $5. 8:30 P.M. WonderRoot, 982 Memorial Dr. 404-254-5955.
I'm pretty sure he was 19.
3 people apparently love handing over an extra 40% in fees for nothing in return…
Dang. I thought they would name some actual headliners.
Forgot to mention that Iggy did a stellar show @ the Agora in the spring…
Their fees were onerous, to say the least. $16 per ticket for "convenience," and it's…
That poster is for the Iggy Pop show on March 11 1983 @ 688 club…
