The Buckhead Theatre
3110 Roswell Rd. 404-the-BUCK
Sat., Oct. 23 — Guided By Voices. Yeah it's SOLD OUT, but it's happening and if you can get in, do it. This is the circa '92-'96 GBV lineup that features Tobin Sprout, Mitch Mitchell, Kevin Fennell, Greg Demos and Robert Pollard. So for those of you who haven't been paying attention, this encompasses the part of the group's catalog leading up to and including Alien Lanes, Bee Thousand and Under The Bushes Under the Stars (among others). It was a beautiful time for the band, a time before Doug Gillard. Sweet Apple opens.

Fri., Oct. 22 — The Thunder Rolls. Really, this sounds awful. Like Chinese water torture, or a 10th level of hell that not even Dante could conjure up. But it's also kind of worth checking out if for nothing other than the spectacle of it all, at least for a few minutes. Here's the deal: A bunch of musicians are getting together and playing Garth Brooks' "The Thunder Rolls," and they're going to play it all night long over and over again. Each act performing has ten minutes to play their interpretation of song and move on because it's someone else's turn next. This will supposedly happen 30 Times. Between bands there will be a karaoke set-up so people can sing "The Thunder Rolls." Oh, and it's not supposed to be an exorcise in irony.
I couldn't have made this up... Hit up Eyedrum's site for info on who's playing, as well as lyrics, tabs and chords for "The Thunder Rolls." Of course it's free, because you would be hard-pressed to find anyone willing to part with their hard-earned dollar bills to sit through this. Music starts at 10 p.m.
