Ric Atari's Hustle

Posted By on Fri, Oct 22, 2010 at 12:55 PM

Atlanta's Ric Atari stays on his hustle. His website lists him as an "International Creator/Artist/Producer/Songwriter," as well as the president, CEO, and/or partner of six separate ventures. His 2009 mixtape, Songs in the Key of Autotune, is ego-maniacal to the point of hilarity, and his nickname is the Cancer "because of his multi-faceted attack on the entertainment industry." Oh, also, he's into professional wrestling.

Whether he's a truly self-obsessed sexual hulkster, or a semi-parody of an entire industry, dude has talent, especially when he drops the auto-tune. "The Hustle's Gone" (click there for the stream/download) is a lament to getting older and dodging the heat, with mild-mannered drums, a smoky electric organ, and a falsetto hook. Vocals come from Ric Atari, Grease (aka Atlanta visual artist Michi Meko), and Mr. DJ's latest group, Mama's Mustache [sic]. In fact, the track was produced by Mr. DJ, and there really is no mistaking the Dungeon Family vet's signature style. Let's hope AtariMania continues to provide solid tracks that buck/spoof/create the trend.
