I can see it now. All of these bands that never played Lenny's after it moved getting all weepy and nostalgic about a club they helped to go out of business. Lenny's didnt pay the best, the sound wasnt the best, but it gave every band in this town their start. For those that abandoned it once they could play other clubs, well shame on you.
Adam Pointer / The Vaginas
If they don't pay well, and the sound isn't good, why would a band continue to play there once they could play other clubs? You're contradicting yourself.

Contradicting myself would mean that later on i claimed that the sound was great and the pay was awesome. I will contradict myself now though. Unless you have a guarantee, Lenny's works on the same pay scale every club in Atlanta works on. $120 for sound and the rest of the door to the bands. And by saying the it does not have the best sound, im not saying it has the worst either. Maybe not as good as the Earl but who is? To the question of why should a band continue to play there? Loyalty to the club that gave them their start. I am not saying every show you play should be at Lenny's but it would have been pretty cool to see big name Atlanta bands booking shows there. The place is fucking lawless. Its the most fun venue to play in Atlanta.
I had no idea that place was still open. They haven't updated their website or myspace page since August. How does anyone know what bands are playing, or do people just love the venue so much that they just go and find out when they get there? Pay aside, I can't think of a worse place in town to play. If I was looking for a loud, smoky, uncomfortable room to play, I would rather even play the 10High.
It wasn't the club that gave them the start, it was the promoters and the promoters moved on to better venues.
Bands didn't abandon Lenny's because they "could" play other clubs... they abandoned it because it moved into a fucking shitty strip mall. I don't care what club you have allegiance to, no band wants to play in a room that consistently sounds like shit both on the stage and off. Why would there be allegiance to club's name alone? It's all about the location and room. It was cool in a shitty understated double-wide trailor sort of way when it was on Memorial Drive, but they fucking moved and it always sucked after that.
i wouldn't be surprised if this was another publicity stunt to get bands to play there and get more people to come out "one last time". they would do that.
But now where will the Outlaws MC hang???
With the fading of Lenny's and the rising of the resurrected 688 Club, there will always be places for bands to play.
Also Lenny's was the only club that would allow pot legalization fund raisers, while the other clubs would not touch it. Rising above profit for giving to the community is what made Lenny's a legend.
old Lenny's smelled like boy's pee-pee. but it was still kind of cool. we stopped playing there not out of lack of loyalty, more because it was like pulling teeth to get anyone to come see you there.
I liked the door-less stall in the men's room. It's always pleasant to wave at a guy who's cranking out a deuce.
