So there's a new band in town and they're called Transvestite. The lineup includes Daniel Deckebach (Sunglasses), Stephanie Luke (the Coathangers), Josh Feigert and Ian Deaton (Blame Game, Thy Mighty Contract et. al.), and they're playing their first show tonight at 529.

I caught up with Ian on the phone today and he explained that Transvestite sounds like a hardcore band that's been listening to a lot of those middle period Killing Joke records, the albums that most people don't like because they abandoned their post-punk roots for a more '80s pop/new wave sound, which was still pretty cool.

But I think what he was getting at is that the band is influenced specifically by Killing Joke's guitarist, Georgie Walker. You'll hear a lot of his style in Transvestite's songs, but played much faster.
Siamese Twin and Glue (which features members of Swamp Ape) open.

$5. 9 p.m. 529, 529 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-228-6769.
