Today he has offered up this remix of "Bellwether" from Sealions' debut, Strange Veins. It's one of those rare instances where a remix is actually warranted and executed tastefully. It's even a little more compelling than the song's original arrangement.
Thatcher tells more about his pairing with Sealions:
When they finished their record they got in touch and asked if I'd like to do a remix of one of their songs. "Bellwether" always stood out for me when I'd see them live so I got the stems (single tracks from the recording, like vocals, guitar, etc) and set to work.Sealions' sound always kinda reminded me of a sort of mid-late period Factory Records vibe or Depeche mode so I sort of approached it like doing a 12-inch dance version of the tune. I wanted everything to be more spacey and dubbed out, but also have that solid four on the floor going to make it work on the dancefloor. I kept the original vocals more or less, and the guitar parts which I manipulated. The structure of the tune is basically the same but I wound up using my collection of analog synths and efx, crammed into my tiny Brooklyn apt. for all the other sounds.
