Murfreesboro, Tenn. power pop tarts Those Darlins unveiled a new video for the song, "Be Your Bro," over the weekend. It’s the first single from their forthcoming second album, Screws Get Loose (due out March 29 via Oh Wow Dang). The video juxtaposes scenes shot in the Warhol screen test-style, along with a little bit of performance footage.
It's got a great look to it, but there’s a bit of a mixed message going on here. “Be Your Bro” is by no means a pro-libido song. Yet here we are checking out the ladies (and Linwood) as they ham it up for the camera in various states of undress. They’re an alluring bunch to be sure, and the video is easy on the eyes. But the tone of lyrics, such as “I just wanna be your brother / You just wanna be my boyfriend / I just wanna run and play in the dirt with you / You just wanna stick it in,” just kind of pulls you right out of the moment. But at the same time the visual elements also underscore the weight of a line, like “I may have girly parts but I got a boyish heart,” so it all comes out in the wash, I guess.
Placing these things together in such a way kind of spells out the dilemma behind the song. Of course these things are open to interpretation. Freud said "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar," and maybe the “Be Your Bro” video is just an awesome piece of eye candy.
ooooohhhh, I'm so excited!! I can't wait to see them together!
come on man you know you got a bromance. you probably still rock that OutKast…
Yes, 14 is the correct answer. I'll pass your info along to the group's manager,…
That was January of 2007, and they are 21 now, so I'm guessing 14?
