Spree Wilson's smooth 'Transition'

The Atlanta-bred artist Spree Wilson's latest leak, "Transition" feat. Novel, reminds me of the first CDR of music he handed me a few years ago at the soul food joint Busy Bee on MLK Jr. Dr. At the time, he struck me as the hidden gem with the golden voice in a scene that was barely starting to bubble.

On this new teaser, Spree encapsulates his ongoing transition from unsigned ATLien to Brooklyn-based, Q-Tip protegée. The song features his longtime collaborators Paul "Shoden 1" Sheehy on production and Novel on the hook. (The three of them formerly comprised the trio Knives Out). Unlike most new artists who get so caught up in trying to produce hits that they forget how important it is to introduce themselves by telling their story on record, Spree spits such compelling bits of autobiography here that you can't help but join him on his journey toward The Never Ending Now, the title of his forthcoming debut.
