J-Hud on Oprah: Dump that drug dealin’ man

Jennifer Hudson’s new song Where You At” is a little hood

Jennifer Hudson performed her new single, “Where You At,” on Oprah today. And she looked radiant doing it. That Weight Watchers is working wonders. But from the lyrics of the song, it occurred to me that she could very well be on a crack diet. The second verse damn near makes it plain. Sounds like she’s dating the neighborhood dope man:

?
Now you said, you would go to church
Stop the slangin’, find a real job
And go to work

?
Consider it further evidence of the overwhelming influence rap has had on R&B. Even our breakup-to-makeup songs are drug-laced now. “Where You At” would’ve been perfectly suited for J-Hud when she was still squeezing into a size 16, ’cause big girls are good for singing about getting their hearts broken — and breaking the windows out of their ex-man’s car in return (see: Jazmine Sullivan). But now that she’s rocking a size 6, Jennifer might have to switch her whole steelo up. Start whipping her hair back and forth. Or wearing pork-chop halter tops to award shows. Then again, maybe there’s something more covert going on here. Could hood breakup anthems be the new “Just Say No”?
