Goldie is coming! Goldie is coming!

Goldie headlines at Masquerade tonight, along with J. Rabbit, Riott and MC Armanni Reign

Image The second-to-last time I heard Goldie spin a show, it was around the same time Liquid Groove (yeah, they dropped the surname and clipped it like a certain overglamorized rap mogul) brought Grooverider to the North Atlanta Trade Center. And what do you know ... who’s that slim character with crazy swag, fuzzy pants and a small entourage? Andre 3000! This is right around the time Stankonia dropped, and I’m convinced that he and Big Boi were listening to and being influenced by jungle and drum and bass, thus the incredibly drum-heavy “B.O.B.”

Love my ATLiens, but this is about Metalheadz founder Goldie, who’s worked with everyone from Bjork to KRS-One, and someone solid from just about all genres between. (Think I’m playing? Here’s Goldie orchestrating “O Fortuna.”) Not to mention his Metalheadz influences (Grooverider and 4Hero included) and contributions, maintaining and progressing jungle through his own work (particularly Timeless), in addition to pushing tracks of DNBs finest DJs and producers such as Optical, Photek, Ed Rush, Dillinja, Hive and Kemistry (R.I.P.) and Storm.

Suicide Dub’s High Rankin was originally on the lineup for a first-time-in-Atlanta appearance, but couldn’t get his Visa processed in time. J. Rabbit is a very worthy consolation. The Living Experience, Charlie P, Michaelangelo, Daniel McBreezy and MJ round out one-half of the lineup. Cobra Corps’ contribution includes Riottt, C. Will and Jay Envy, DJ Golden and DJ Bassel. MCs for the evening: Armanni Reign and Kakarot MC.

Goldie and the crew come courtesy of Household Management, a promotion company that’s done a fantastic job keeping drum and bass alive in its leaner years. Their shows are typically at the Masquerade, including a summer series of free DNB shows, and larger ones with the likes of Ed Rush and Optical on the DNB side, and Starkey and Rusko on the dubstep end.
