With their quintessential 1986 debut, Age of Quarrel, the almighty Cro-Mags revolutionized East Coast hardcore with a punk and thrash-metal hybrid that influenced a legacy of lunkhead imitators. It was one of those instances where the right thing happened at the right time, and no band of their ilk, not even the Cro-Mags themselves, ever matched Age of Quarrel's raw intensity.

Has it aged well? That's all in the ear of the beholder. But hardcore/thrash-metal of this caliber, and with such era-specific production qualities, could only have been created in the latter part of the '80s. So there's a element of charm and nostalgia that comes along with listening to it now, albeit a very brutal album.

If you want proof of their greatness in the time of the nuclear menace, look no further than Age of Quarrel's opening salvo, "We Gotta Know."

Old-school frontman John Joseph leads a hodgepodge lineup at Vinyl this Saturday night (Feb. 26) as they play Age of Quarrel in its entirety.

$13. 8 p.m. Vinyl. 1374 West Peachtree St. 404-885-1365.
