I hope you haven’t gotten rid of that tape deck! Another new release will be issued on cassette, but this one is a three-way split featuring Atlanta experimentalists Nomen Novum, Magicicada and Tree Creature. Each noise concocter will fill their slot on the tape with 10 minutes where they just kind of do their own thing. “I explored more instrumental/collage territory than usual,” says Nomen Novum’s David Norbery. “I think the plan is for us to rework each others' tracks and release the remixes as a free digital thing later.”

The split cassette will be available for free with admission to the album release show at The Goat Farm this Friday (April 22). But with only 50 copies made you might want to get there early. And if you’re wondering why they chose to release the music on cassette, Norbery has your answer. “Because of the totally warm sound quality, maann! We just wanted to make a neat, handmade collectible," he adds. "Vinyl is always everybody’s first choice, but it's just too expensive for tiny, self-released projects like this. Part of the appeal of tapes is that, like vinyl, you can't just rip them and forget them like people tend to do with CDs. This will all be available digitally anyhow, so burning a bunch of CD-Rs would have been just as unnecessary.”

“Helmut” was recorded by Nomen Novum for the split release and plays on sounds Norbery recorded while staying at a cabin in Mentone, AL. If you check out his Band Camp page you’ll find some other new unreleased tracks, along with pretty much everything Nomen Novum has released.
