Wizard Smoke and Predator bring new albums into the world

Posted By on Sat, Apr 30, 2011 at 11:59 AM

In case you missed it, we've been shouting out Wizard Smoke's second coming, The Speed of Smoke for a couple of weeks now — ever since it hit the Internet. Tonight the album takes physical form as both a cassette and LP, and is being honored with an album release party at the Drunken Unicorn. Death of Kings opens, and Predator fills in the middle slot.

It should be noted that Predator's self-titled debut (Douchemaster Records) landed on record store shelves a few weeks back as well, but it's been kind of a sleeper. Back in April of '09 we praised the group's Minor Threat meets the Buzzcocks style of fast and furious songwriting, and described their sound as a balance of "pummeling drums, distorted bass chops, motorik guitar hooks, and dual vocals that strike with visceral grit and minimalism."

This is the album they were plugging away at back then. Now it's finally here and we'll have a proper review posted soon. In the meantime, check out "Dancing Queen Bitch" from the album.

"Dancing Queen Bitch"

$8. 9 p.m. The Drunken Unicorn, 736 Ponce de Leon Place.
