I received word this morning that Michael Gira's re-activated Swans will make it’s way to Atlanta on the third leg of the group’s North American tour — the first time the group has performed in 14 years. Gira and Swans are still buzzing from the 2010 release of the fantastic My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope to the Sky (Young God Records), the first new Swans album since 1997's Soundtracks For The Blind. The lineup for the show is as follows: Gira (guitar, voice) Norman Westberg (guitar), Christoph Hahn - guitar), Phil Puleo (drums, percussion, dulcimer), Chris Pravdica (bass and gadgets), Thor Harris (drums, percussion, vibes, dulcimer, curios, keys). Sir Richard Bishop Opens.
Michael Gira: "One thing I want to point out right now: THIS IS NOT A REUNION. It's not some dumb-ass nostalgia act. It is not repeating the past. After five Angels Of Light albums, I needed a way to move FORWARD, in a new direction, and it just so happens that revivifying the idea of Swans is allowing me to do that.”
$22. Show starts at 8:30 p.m. Mon., Sept. 16. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. 404-524-7354.
