Barnes isn’t quite the traditional DJ, however. In the past, his List Christee sets have varied considerably, ranging from laptop-controlled dance parties to guitar-driven solo performances. A few years back, Barnes told Paste Magazine,
"I established myself as a completely uninspired loser DJ. But I made up a DJ name, which I think is essential… I don't even feel like it's a performance. I'm not a DJ. I'm a real-time playlist arranger. A DJ pumps up the crowd and scratches and does creative stuff on the fly. I was basically just chilling and playing music."
Given the raucous nature of opening act Balkans, it’s not hard to wonder exactly in what direction the show will go. Still, Barnes is a captivating live performer, and no matter what tone the night takes, it's bound to be interesting.
$8. 9 p.m. Saturday, July 16. 18+. The Basement. 1245 Glenwood Ave. 404-662-8686.
