"June 16, 1971/mama gave birth to a hell-raisin' heavenly son," and this Thursday, June 16, Bun B, Eric Roberson, DJ Drama, 8Ball & MJG, Erykah Badu, Roy Ayers, Jasmine Guy, Meek Mills, Tiny and Mike Epps will be among those at Atlanta Symphony Hall to celebrate what would've been the 40th birthday of the most prolific rapper ever.
Hosted by Epps and Tupac's mother Afeni Shakur, the event features a diverse roster of artists, and you can't help but imagine that's the way Pac, who worked with everyone from Jon B. to C-Bo, would've wanted it. During last year's celebration and benefit concert, Dekalb County officials named June 16 "Tupac Day" in honor of the legend and his foundation, which is located in Stone Mountain on Memorial Drive.
“I’m looking forward to another year of preserving Tupac’s legacy by celebrating his life with his fans and furthering his causes by supporting his organization," Epps said in a statement.
Tupac's 40th Birthday Concert Celebration. List of performers. $45-$150. 8 p.m. Thurs., June 16. Atlanta Symphony Hall, 1280 Peachtree St. www.16thofjune.com. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation for the Arts.
Editor's note: On a related note, check out YouTuber Jasmine Nicole Mans video diatribe below on why Rick Ross and Meek Mills' song "Tupac Back" is the total antithesis of what Tupac represented. Of course, that's the thing about Pac, his lyrical legacy is so ambiguous that he left a lot to be (mis)interpreted in his wake. Kinda like Jesus.
