You might think that playing in one of the world’s largest metal bands while simultaneously maintaining two successful side projects would become pretty tiring, but you’d be wrong. At least about Mastodon’s Brent Hinds. In fact, the guitarist (who also moonlights in Fiend Without a Face and West End Motel) just announced to Noisecreep that he’s started a new project with Ben Weinman, guitarist of the Dillinger Escape Plan, ex-Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen, and Eric Avery, former bassist for Jane’s Addiction.

?
The veritable supergroup is currently unnamed, but Hinds has apparently been lobbying hard for the moniker Giraffe Tongue, due to how completely creepy they look. Because Avery and Prigden are based in California, while Weinman resides in New Jersey, the group has not yet had a chance to record, but Hinds insists the quartet has plans for some “crazy stuff.”

Hinds is currently working on recording Mastodon’s new record The Hunter, due out this fall.
