Ben Westhoff named LA Weekly's music editor

Congratulations are in order for long-standing CL music scribe Ben Westhoff, who was hired this week to take on the role as music editor for LA Weekly.

Westhoff is a New Jersey-based writer and author of two books, including his latest work, Dirty South (Chicago Review Press). His writings have appeared in CL along with the Village Voice, Spin, Pitchfork, NPR and several others.

At LA Weekly, Westhoff is replacing former music editor Gustavo Turner, who returned to working as a full-time contributing writer earlier this year.

The new gig means he'll be making a move across the country to begin work on July 12. "The Dirty South and the West Coast have a lot in common when it comes to hip-hop, similar sensibilities, a kinship, and a history of being hated on," Westhoff says. "Most importantly, I grew up on Dr. Dre and Poison, so this move makes a lot of sense to me."
