Britt Teusink’s drunken and manic-depressive rants show off a growing ability to control his voice in terms of both style and nonsensical substance here, albeit buried under layers of reverb and murk. “Cat in the Microwave” is the obvious standout on this brief teaser, but there are no songs that leap out of the speakers and set you outside of your comfort zone as A. Grimes’ songs have done in the past. Rather, this is a batch of creepers that linger on the inside and do their dirty work after they’ve infiltrated the brain. “No Name” builds on the folkish, sing-along style that the group has dabbled in during occasional acoustic shows. Here it comes together with a spacious and dirty skulk that’s creepy to the end.
The missing song here is a re-recorded version of “Pigseatingpigs” that will materialize on a cassette that’s due to hit the streets September 2 via Pink House Tapes.
This is such a cool idea and the performance is great (I've been twice) but…
