Things to do on a Wednesday night in Atlanta

Posted By on Wed, Aug 31, 2011 at 12:14 PM

What to do, what to do? Have a close encounters of the nerd kind at the Earl with Man or Astro-man?, or head over to the Five Spot for Killah Priest?

Ever since the men of MOAM unexpectedly re-emerged from their decade+ of cryogenic cold-storage last spring, the tenacious band of surf and sci-fi invaders from space have been on a tear across the country, showing up sporadically to reclaim the land. Now it’s time to extend their reach across the pond. But before the European assault begins, the group is putting on a display of brutal supremacy right here in Atlanta. Beware, Man or Astro-man?’s spectacle of lightning, smoke and extra terrestrial kerrang is not for the faint of heart. Revived math rock masters the Purkinje Shift warm up the stage for them.

On the other hand, a genuine Wu-banger is gonna unfild on-stage at the Five Spot tonight. First impressions count; and when Killah Priest penned "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth (B.I.B.L.E)" for GZA's Liquid Swords in ’95 he left his mark as the Wu-Tang swordsman that wields a heavy sense of cosmic spirituality. Over the last year glimpses of his forthcoming double-disc opus, The Psychic World of Walter Reed, have hit the Internet, showing off the tip of what appears to be a glacial album up his sleeve. Be prepared for an evening of brooding allegories, visceral rhymes and Wu swords galore.

Making the decision even more difficult, Baby Baby, The Wheeler Boys, W.I.C., Reggie Bishop, and Glenn Saddler are playing over at 529.

Karma To Burn, Bigfoot and the Accidents are at the Star Bar.

Lille, Curio Museum and Radiation City are at the Drunken Unicorn.

Palaces, Iron Whip and Dyess are playing Blue Frog Cantina.

And last but not least, Jeff Crompton Quartet & Hidden Noise Ensemble are at the Music Room.
