MonstrO’s self-titled debut for Vagrant Records hits the streets today (Tuesday, September 6). The psych. metal-lite foursome spent the better part of the year sculpting the swirling guitar sounds and breezy pace of its first album with producer William DuVall (Alice in Chains/Neon Christ). The result is an intricate and hypnotic collection of songs that are metal on the surface, but the group's sound and vision runs much deeper than what such an arcane label implies. However, there is a clearly metallic vision being executed here, particularly in the swirling guitar work and restrained ’80s war cry that's brewing inside such triumphant anthems as “Fantasma,” “Stallone,” and in the barreling rhythms of “Solar.” There’s a great deal of musical complexity and variety being channeled into these 10 songs as well. What they lack in danger or menace is totally eclipsed by the billowing moods, atmospheres and textures culminating in a record that’s full of mystery, and cut from a very colorful palette of sound.

To celebrate the album's release, vocalist/guitarist Charlie Suarez, guitarist Juan Montoya (ex Torche), bassist Kyle Sanders, drummer Bevan Davies (Danzig) are heading out on a 19-city tour across the country with (mostly) reunited Queens of the Stone Age progenitor Kyuss.
