What do you do when you’re tired of being an opening band, playing to the thinnest crowd of the night? Arrange an entire show for yourself — and save a good slot for your band. That’s what Jonathan Kamran has done with Bleu House Productions’ Edgewood Spook festival, an all-day event that starts at 1:30 p.m. and
takes places at three houses near Chipley Street (close to the Edgewood Retail District). But the shindig, which features more than 50 bands, is about more than just Kamran’s band. “I don’t feel like everybody knows everybody, so this is a chance for everybody to get know everyone,” Kamran explained.
Most of the bands slated to perform (Moodrings, Vegan Coke, Lucy Dreams, Glen Iris, Gun Party, the Clap and Christ, Lord, to name a few) are locals. Just a handful of other bands (Alabama’s Piss Shivers and Hill St. Hooligans of Tennessee) are from out of town.
Organizing such a large-scale event is quite an endeavor, especially considering Bleu House Productions has only been hosting house shows for about four months. Last night, around 10 p.m., Kamran explained that he hadn’t slept the night before and expected to be up late setting up and ironing out details.
The house addresses haven’t been announced yet, but don’t fret: Folks can get $10 all-access wristbands at 1441 Chipley Street and go from there. Living Walls will get 25% of the proceeds. Feed Your Head, Earthshaking Music and WonderRoot serve somewhat as sponsors, in that Kamran ran out of time for formalities and simply slapped their logos on banners and fliers to give them free promotion — just because he likes them.
So where did Kamran’s band, Kreepy Molestache, end up? They’ll play at 10 p.m. at House A — wherever that is. If the whole thing works out — it probably will, since Kamran paid off the neighbors in advance — it could be monumental.
