Last week (as you may or may not recall) the Crib Notes blog presented a little missive about drummer Little John Roberts’ new weekly live music event, Simply the Best. In the piece, Roberts himself noted that his renowned band The Chronicle would be the show’s regular featured act — but they would also often share the stage with a rotating cast of other artists from Atlanta, as well as locales across the nation and/or world.
Well, it turns out dude was not exaggerating about that “rotating cast”; this week event organizers have taken it up a notch with an International Soul Edition, starring ATL-based soul singer/musician Avery Sunshine and the "Afropean" duo Les Nubians.
For the uninitiated, Sunshine has been making noise around town for several years now for employing her ultra-crisp vocal skills to belt out a collection of tight, clever and decidedly “ready-for-prime-time” original tunes.
The sister group Les Nubians, on the other hand, has been kicking up dust around the world since the late 1990s — landing, arguably, its biggest hit with the song “Makeda”
The combination tonight — led by Roberts and the usual suspects — will undoubtedly make for some beautiful music. Miss it at your own peril.
