Black Friday, a Record Store Day sales event

Posted by Chad Radford on Fri, Nov 25, 2011 at 8:08 AM

While the country atones for yesterday’s dinner table sins by going into a spending frenzy, the folks at Record Store Day have assembled a list of limited edition heavy hitters that are landing on the shelves today, and they won't be there for long.

You can view a complete list of these highly coveted Black Friday releases here, most of which can be found inside the perimeter at Wax n’ Facts, Criminal Records, Decatur CD, Fantasyland and Wuxtry, and up in Roswell they’ll be at Mojo Vinyl. Did we miss anyone?

These Black Friday releases are distributed among the land in strange ways so you may have to hit up a few record stores to find what you want.

I’m not a wealthy man, but I’m most stoked about tracking down at least a handful of the following:

The Syd Barrett Photography of Mick Rock book + 7-inch

The Miles Davis Quartet Prestige 10-inch

The Black Keys "Lonely Boy" 12-inch (with a reverse groove!)

The Byrds "The Times They Are A Changin'" and "Eight Miles High" 7-inches

Nirvana Nevermind 10-inch singles box set

Pete Townshend The Quadrophenia Demos Vol. 1 10-inch

Wilco Speak Into The Rose 10-inch.

Fear "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" 7-inch

And the three Mr. Gasser and the Weirdos LP/CD reissues: Hot Rod Hootenanny, Rods N Ratfinks and Surfinks! look especially cool.

… And Zano Bathroom (the hand model pictured above and ½ of experimental hip-hop duo Social Studies) put together his own list of Black Friday mash ups that he wishes someone would make happen for next year — Black Eyed Keys, Black Rebel Sabbath, Frank Uhuru, Flag Mountain, and last but not least, Crowe’s Lips.

Great article guys but you sure did miss one -- a couple in fact! Fantasyland Records has been one of ATL's best record stores for decades now, Full Moon Records is a wonderful longtime shop in Candler Park, and Records Galore in Clarkston is one of my favorites. And don't forget Moods Music, the nice little soul music store in the heart of Little 5 Points.

These stores are rare these days so please don't leave them out when you do these round-ups! Thanks!

Thanks for the comment, but if you read it again you will see that I am referring to the record stores where you could get Black Friday releases. The shops you have listed in your comment are fine places indeed, but they aren't carrying Black Friday titles.

And yes, Records Galore is one of my favorite places to hit up every so often. Fantasyland's newer, bigger space is pretty cool as well.

Thanks for reading.

Oh that's right... well, long live all these bricks and mortar music stores, they rock!
