Grammy nominations arrive, are still worthless

mastodon_borat.jpg

Apparently no one at ye olde RIAA was listening the last two years when I made what I felt at the time were pretty persuasive, if manic, arguments against the sustained existence of the Grammy Awards, that bastion of bloated self-worth and crusted musical semen. No, it seems those bastards will continue making us endure the awful ceremony year in and year out as part of some sort of hellish global mindgame, some Clockwork Orange-esque media force-feeding. Look at these oinking piggies, they say. We'll make them care about Mumford & Sons. We'll feed them Foster the People until they choke. And then they high-five while snorting the last of their cocaine mountain and listening to Katy Perry's "Firework" on repeat. Or, you know, whatever.

But onward and upward, and blah blah blah. After the jump, a list of all this year's mostly irrelevant Grammy nominations, with the (disappointingly? thankfully?) few Atlanta-related ones highlighted for your locavorish listening pleasure. The only really cool/bizarre thing? Mastodon (pictured, with Borat), whose "Curl of the Burl" earned a nod for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance alongside Dream Theater and, uh, Sum 41. Also, Bon Iver is everywhere.
