"Pyramids" MP3
Three years have passed since Adron (né Adrienne McCann) last graced the world with an album’s worth of new songs, but the time was not spent in vain. Organismo, the second full-length from Atlanta’s most capricious redhead is an absolute stunner that reinforces the value of taking the time to do it right. Bearing an intricate, meticulous production courtesy of Martin Kearns (whose résumé includes writing, engineering, and production credits with Love Tractor, Nappy Brown, and Anthony David), Organismo is a refined, moonlit collection of lush ruminations, reverb, and subtlety. Blending these elements with the whimsical ways of her past, while dialing down the '60s Brazilian Tropicàlia accents, reveals a disarming amount of growth, but it never comes at the expense of her tongue-in-cheek sense of humor and fascination with the world around her. For more on this just click play on “Pyramids” (below) and you’ll catch her drift.
When it comes to honest-to-goodness talent as a singer (she sings in three languages on this album), as a songwriter, and as a captivating performer it’s difficult to top what she does. She lacks the pretense and sentimentality that so often accompanies such serious musicianship, and the band that she’s assembled as of late, despite their fancy hippie exterior, is a supremely talented cast of players that underscores her aesthetic with ease throughout the album, from beginning to end.
