Music news Five years after Drama went down, mixtapes still rule

Remember when the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) had DJ Drama arrested for making all those mixtapes? That was January 16, 2007, five years ago yesterday. Look at how much the musical landscape has changed since then.
The RIAA finally let it go, and Drama has remained a free man. In honor of yesterday's date the Boom Box posted a mixtape timeline that traces the history and evolution of this invaluable means of getting music to the masses.

Man, mixtapes blow. Why on earth would a mixtape give and cred to any real talent. I make mixtapes all the time and I don't have any musical talent. "Ooooooh....I made a recording of other people songs, but I pushed the mix button up and down at the end and beginnings of songs or mixed one song into another with a program I got for Christmas..." Weak.
