Purkinje Shift posts entire catalogue, new songs coming soon

A secret history of Atlanta’s math rock/post-hardcore sounds of the late ’90s

Image Revived Atlanta math rock progenitors the Purkinje Shift have posted their entire catalogue — the “Theme b/w “Nine Twelve” 7-inch from 1997, Nickel Waves and Carbon Stars (’98), and Five For The Road and One For The Ditch (’99) — on Bandcamp, which is awfully convenient.

?
There’s a secret history lesson hiding in these songs that offers a snapshot of a progressive era not only for post-hardcore and indie rock on a national scale, but for the local scene of the late ’90s, and this particular group’s pursuit of stark, angular perfection. … And that 7-inch is damn near impossible to track down these days (if you have one to spare lying around give me a holler). But if you don’t have time to go digging through the cheap-o unsorted bins at the Book Nook, or those dirty boxes on the floor at Wax ‘n’ Facts, all the music is right here and it’s free for the taking.

?
Listen in chronological order, it only gets better.

?
New songs should be arriving soon, and if you catch their set at 529 this Friday you’ll see and hear nothing but new material, which they’re planning to start recording over the next two months.
