Back in November, adventurous and unknowable songstress Kate Bush dropped her latest album, the gorgeous 50 Words for Snow. It was an immediate winter masterpiece, a record afflicted with a serious case of SAD but all the more incisive for it.
Today NPR premiered the new Bush-directed video for 50 Words' vast, meandering "Lake Tahoe." Or rather, it's only one part of the 12-minute song; the five-minute segment and its accompanying visual is meant as a standalone piece, which Bush has entitled "Eider Falls at Lake Tahoe." The video, created with the spooky beauty of shadow puppetry, depicts the song's main character - a dog - dreaming of a reunion with his master, herself long since drowned. It's stark and haunting, and like all Bush's work, it's incredibly powerful.
And, seriously, if you haven't heard 50 Words for Snow yet, quit being a dummy and go grab that.
