Algiers single gives Double Phantom renewed strength

Experimental gospel/soul trio makes a grand entrance with “Blood” b/w “Black Eunuch” single

?
Since 2006 Lee Tesche of Lyonnais has found himself in the midst of a low-key and experimental gospel/soul trio spread out between London, New York, and Paris, dubbed Algiers. Made up entirely of Atlanta expats Franklin James Fisher (vocals, guitar, piano, and percussion), Ryan Mahan (vocals, bass), and Tesche (guitar, programming and production), the group has done a good job of keeping itself under wraps, all the while collaborating through the mail. But now they’ve got a new 7-inch out via Double Phantom, and it’s a monster. It breaks the mold of dream pop and electronic music that’s become the label’s M.O. over the last year.

?
The record features two cuts, “Blood” b/w “Black Eunuch,” both of which are free for the taking via Algiers’ Soundcloud page.

?
Twenty copies of the 7-inch are available for free at Criminal Records with the purchase of any Double Phantom, Geographic North, or Hoss release. This same special is taking place at Amoeba Records and Origami Vinyl in Los Angeles, Academy Annex and Permanent Records in New York, and Rough Trade East and West in London.

?
The group has a cache of songs in the can that are currently being compiled for a full album that’s due out later this year.
